My journey

I would like to introduce you to the world of Archetypal Dreamwork through my own dreams. I hope that this will give you a bit of a feel for how this process might help you to find real meaning in your dreams and in your life.

An early dream

I am at the Hardwick food co-op and a woman friend is holding my right hand in her hand and using a serrated knife to cut through my wrist. She is about a third of the way through and I can see muscle and bone and tendons. I am surprised at how little blood there is. I feel nothing while this is happening. I am completely numb.

The session

I still remember the session I worked this dream with Christa, my dream therapist at the time. It was an early session, one of our first together, and I still remember the look of horror on her face as we talked about the dream. She felt the horror of both the dream and at how little I felt what was happening in it. I got that something was wrong.

My self perception

I thought at the time that I was a somewhat sensitive guy. I had done therapy work. I had been a part of a men’s group. I thought that I was in touch with my feelings in a way that most men weren’t. It made sense to me what Christa was saying. After all my hand was being cut off. Still the dream contradicted a lot, if not all of what I believed about myself. It was as if Christa was speaking to me in another language.

What it meant

Christa was speaking to me in a different language. Dreams speak in the language of the heart and they challenge the stories that we have about ourselves. Christa never interpreted the dream for me. She worked with me to help me see what the dream was trying to show me. No interpretation could have ever done that. The dream was showing me how little I really felt and in doing so it turned my self perception upside down.

The miracle

With Christa and later Marc’s support I started to get what my dreams were telling me. I started really listening to my dreams and I started changing my life based on what they were teaching me. This was a gift that I hope to share with anyone who is interested. If you would like to hear more about my personal journey you could listen to my radio interview about the work.
